Develop textile designs from concept to cloth. Create digital artworks and learn how to create a seamless repeat pattern ready for print.

Covering the basics of digital textile design using Adobe Photoshop and (to a lesser degree) Adobe Illustrator including:

  • Digital image manipulation and editing.

  • How to prepare a hand-generated design, a photograph and a digital design for print.

  • File formats, file preparation for print, resolution/quality and colour management.

  • Creating a seamless repeat pattern.

  • Prerequisites: Beginner knowledge of Adobe Photoshop. You must be able to bring your own laptop with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

The Frankie and Swiss studio is brimming with colour and pattern and will provide a visual reference and context for developing your very own customised fabric designs. At the end of the workshop, you’ll have gained both practical and theoretical experience in developing a textile print from initial concept through to final digital design. You’ll have the chance to see first hand the digital print process. This course is facilitated by Rachel, our in-house textile designer at Frankie and Swiss. Rachel studied Textile Design at RMIT and has been part of the Frankie and Swiss family since the business was established in 2011.
